The big debate that seems to loom in our districct, school and math content is the philospohy of "circle 50" that we are required to use. The process of circle 50 changes every grade, including zeros, to a minimum low score of 50%. The reasoning behind it is that a child can never recover from a zero. Most teachers in my math department struggle with giving a student "something for nothing" including myself. We have plenty of students who wrok very hard and earnestly to earn their grade whether it is a 51% or 91% and for those kids who have not done an assignment to achieve at least a 50% does not seem right to most.
